What is an Acupressure Comb?
There are many acupressure points in the entire body. The Lao gong point, found in the middle of your palm where your ring and middle finger meet when making a fist, helps to release endorphins and creates an alternate sensation to the one you are experiencing in labour. This point helps to relieve anxiety, as well as assisting with your own natural endorphin release, therefore increasing your feelings of comfort and control. The other benefit is obtained by confusing the brain with more than one intense sensation at the same time (gate control theory) and therefore blocking pain signals to the brain which then allows you to continue coping.
Why Use an Acupressure Comb for Labour?
If you are hoping to cope with labour naturally or you are wanting something to help you till you can ask for pain relief, the labour comb can be a tool to do so.
